What is the WhatsApp Survey Sharing Feature?
This new feature is a simple but powerful tool that allows Checkbox users to share their surveys directly via WhatsApp. After selecting a survey, users can easily generate a WhatsApp message with a link to the survey and send it to individual contacts or groups.
Instead of relying solely on traditional channels like email and SMS, which often get overlooked in busy inboxes, users of Checkbox can now leverage Whatsapp’s instant messaging to deliver surveys directly into the hands of their respondents. This gives them the advantage of faster delivery and higher visibility, allowing them to connect with their audience through a channel that is part of their everyday communication.
While we intended for users to customize their messages freely, WhatsApp's rules enforce the use of pre-approved messaging templates. That means users must stick to WhatsApp-approved templates to ensure compliance with Meta’s (WhatsApp’s parent company's) regulations.
How Does the WhatApp Survey Integration Work?
- To share a survey, select the “WhatsApp” option from the share menu on your survey page.
- Choose the recipients you want to send the survey link to. All set!
The message is sent using one of the WhatsApp-approved templates and includes a direct link to the survey. While the sender is always displayed as "Checkbox Technology," the content of the message can be customized through the templates.
The Development Process
From idea to working prototype, the initial development of the WhatsApp Survey integration took about a week. Subsequent iterations to make the feature more polished took about a month. Challenges arose when the team realized that sending messages through WhatsApp required approvals from Meta for every template, adding complexity to the development process.
Despite these hurdles, the team successfully integrated the feature into Checkbox, and now it's live and ready for our customers to use!
